In a forum today, I was involved in a heated debate because I said a bad word.
I had no idea it was bad.
I did not even know it was offensive.
I said the " click " word
The discussion started over the cost of ads, and placement. One commenter was complaining about in-text ads, and another was complaining over the poor results from the ads he had on his site from Project Wonderful.
The in-text poster asked me while I was reading blogs, what type of ad appealed to me, and what, if anything would make me visit a sponsor ?
I explained to him that if I was at a food site and saw something for recipe's, or coupons, I was clicking the ad.
If I was at a travel site and saw information on hotels, or coupons or even free guides I would click the ads.
Whatever site I was at, food, travel, politics, that is what I was interested at the time, and if I could get something free, or even a coupon, I would click the ad.
That is when I was hit with the names, and called thief, and click bandit, and people typing in all caps telling me that ads cost money, and I am doing nothing but wasting their hard earned advertising dollars.
I do not click ads to waste any ones money, and I do not try to commit any kind of fraud by clicking them. To me, the ads are like the coupons that come in a Sunday morning paper, and I like to check them out.
So I am just gonna keep clicking, I hope you folks don't mind

So what's use are the ads appearing on the blogs if nobody click them to see or read what's behind those ads? Are their ads only there for the view?
What's the purpose of putting the ads if it won't direct them to their sites? And how can the ads direct to the sites if no one click on them?
Your reasoning is very sensible and those people who dispute you are nonsensical.

People get plain weird about ads. It's a very strange thing, actually. Now don't go clicking those ads -- they're not there to attract visitors.
Seriously? What the heck?

It sounds like you were in a forum full of freaks! I wauld stay away from that place, you might catch soemthing.
I agree with Buggys that forum sounds weird. No one is going to click an ad just to be clicking, but if something catches my eye I'd click also.
Well feel free to stop by my blog and either click or not on anything you might see....lol I suppose if I were in to blogging for the money and was being paid by how many clicks I got on ads it might bother me but alas I have a 40 hour a week job that I have to drive to 5 days a week and only blog for relaxation and enjoyment. Sounds like those people who were getting all huffy with you need to take a chill pill :)
I don't understand. Isn't that what the ads are there for? To be CLICKED? How does one make money if nobody clicked on the ad?
That is the craziest thing I've heard all day. My advertisers pay good money to be on my website and I honestly want to hear that people are clicking the ads and visiting the sites. What else are they there for?
maybe they don't really understand what the purpose of ads. I agreed with the others they are freak.
i don't get it, I thought that's what the ads were there for?
I think, as bloggers, we're all pretty immunt to ads. I rarely notice them when I visit, yet I know they are there. When we use sites like EC to increase our traffic we are pretty much guaranteed that those visits will not increase our ad clicks for google. It's just the nature of the beast...in my opinion.
Bitter advertisers! They do not understand the risks of advertising if they reacted that way. I advertise too so I know what I'm talking about. They should stop advertising if they are just looking for revenue always and not accept losses. Dauqs Online Money Making
you can click away on my blog any day! Those bozo's don't understand that they paid for you to click that ad. Not everyone who clicks will always be a buyer.
huh?!?! Don't click on ads!?! The point you put forth was perhaps the very theoretical objective of advertising! And if you are not supposed to click, either you view the beautiful ad banners for fun, or hover your pointer over the ads, see and type the url and go to the advertisers' sites!
What a strange thing. Sorry for you. I wonder how those people think the internet actually works. Everybody seems to want something for nothing. Somebody HAS to be clicking those ads! I personally only click on ads when I find something very interesting and that's pretty rare. There is so much unregulated and dangerous advertising out there that I have trouble taking it very seriously BUT I certainly have no problem with other people doing it. Oh never mind them, too many empty-headed people in this world to give them your precious time. :)
